As of March 24th, 2023, 1 in 36 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. Today, we more than Awareness, we need a call to ACTION!
April is Autism Awareness month. However, at JSA, we call it Autism in Action month. Honestly, one month out of the year can raise awareness but true impact comes from taking action. Autism is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Clearly having just one day or one month a year to bring awareness and action to this epidemic is NOT ENOUGH!Since 2000, autism prevalence has increased by 317%! These numbers are astonishing! We must work harder to provide education, support, and hope to individuals and families living with autism.
This summer we are embarking on a major expansion project into our front building so we may continue bringing ACTION to AUTISM by having the capability to enroll more students who desperately need our services. We CANNOT do this without the support of our community!
